Greg Heiberger, associate dean of academics and student success in the College of Natural Sciences at South 糖心视频 State University, will serve as interim dean of the Van D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College.
 
Heiberger will assume the interim role as Dean Rebecca Bott-Knutson concludes her employment with SDSU and the university searches for a permanent dean during the fall 2025 semester.

Heiberger鈥檚 academic leadership experiences and student success work have prepared him well for this interim role,鈥� said Dennis Hedge, provost and vice president for academic affairs. 鈥淕reg鈥檚 innovative approach to education is a terrific fit for the Fishback Honors College, and I look forward to working with him as he leads the college.鈥�
 
Heiberger has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mathematics and a master鈥檚 degree in counseling and human resource development with a student affairs specialization, both from SDSU. He earned his Ph.D. in education and human resource studies with a university leadership specialization from Colorado State University.
 
Heiberger鈥檚 20 years of leadership in higher education includes innovation in curriculum, research and outreach programming. He spent five years in student affairs and 10 years as pre-med advisor/instructor. Since 2017, he has served as coordinator of the accelerated master鈥檚 in human biology, and in 2020 he was appointed associate dean of the College of Natural Sciences.

Fishback Honors College at SDSU,鈥� Heiberger said. 鈥淭hroughout the past 25 years, I have witnessed firsthand how the Fishback Honors College adds vigor and vim to nearly every facet of this university, and I am thrilled to serve in this role and work with this inspirational community of scholars.鈥�  

Heiberger鈥檚 recent research projects include a social listening study exploring the change in STEM career sentiment throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and he was the principal investigator for a National Science Foundation-funded project titled "The Wokini Undergraduate Biology Education Network." 
 
In 2022, under Heiberger鈥檚 leadership, SDSU was named one of the first 10 Metaversity campuses in the U.S. He has cultivated internal and external investment in immersive learning initiatives supporting over 150 virtual reality headsets deployed in physical labs, and a mobile virtual reality lab project aimed at engaging regional rural communities in STEM activities and careers through virtual reality. 

鈥℉e regularly leads study abroad programs and oversees the Student Success Team, academic programs and curriculum within the College of Natural Sciences.
 
Heiberger was a founding member of the LeadState program, mentored numerous honors independent studies, has been recognized regularly by students at the Fishback Honors College medallion ceremony, has been nominated for the Fishback Honors College Teacher of the Year and advised hundreds of honors students.
