Nursing programs, research, professionals stronger than ever

Hello, friends of the SDSU College of Nursing.
Over the past several months, as I have prepared to renew my nurse anesthesia certification, the idea of professional identity keeps running through my head. Like many of you, I have enjoyed a long career in nursing — both as a clinician and as an educator. I am grateful for the ways this career has helped me to grow as a person. Truly, being a certified registered nurse anesthetist and an educator defines who I am and influences every facet of my life. Perhaps each of you has had similar experiences throughout your careers, and we love to hear about where your nursing careers have taken you.
This year, the Ph.D. program at SDSU achieved a significant milestone. The College of Nursing launched this program in 2005, and it has been a tremendous asset to the university, state and region as we sought to grow the body of nursing science. I am proud to say that student and Ƶ researchers from the College of Nursing have contributed significantly to the body of knowledge in palliative care, simulation, big data, scholarship of teaching and learning, and mental health through this program. We have a bright future ahead of us!
Our commitment to rural health programming and research is stronger than ever. We are in the process of launching new programs and delivery methods to meet the needs of citizens throughout the state and to solve the very real nursing workforce needs in rural areas of the state and region.
The SDSU College of Nursing is recognized consistently for its high-quality programs that serve as the foundation for early career nurses and a springboard for advanced practice nurses, nurse educators, nurse administrators, clinical leaders and nurse researchers. Nursing professional identity influences how nurses “think, act and feel like professionals.” I could not be prouder of the ways that our students, Ƶ and staff live this out every day.
Thank you all for keeping in touch with us. If you are ever in the area, please stop in.
